IGK Victoria North Balwyn karate dojo

Kushin Kan is the IGK Victorian Headquarters at North Balwyn under Tino Ceberano Hanshi who is a 10th dan international karate master and is referred to as the father of karate in Australia. He was a direct student under Gogen Yamaguchi Hanshi, the founder of Goju Kai (I.K.G.A.).

Kushin Kan is run by John Ross Kyoshi (6th dan) and Lambros Kallianiotis Renshi (4th dan). John Ross Kyoshiis the Chief Instructor of Victoria. Both have been training directly under Tino Ceberano Hanshi for over 35 years and have been certified and attained their ranks from him.

The name Kushin Kan was given to Tino Ceberano Hanshi by his master, Gogen Yamaguchi Hanshi of the Goju Kai (I.K.G.A). The meaning is “free spirit dojo”.

The Kanji is as follows:

空 KU: empty, sky, void, vacant, vacuum; which is also pronounced “Kara” as in karate 空手 – the meaning taken is “Free,” that is, unlimited as the sky

神 SHIN: gods, mind, soul – the meaning taken is “spirit” as in gods, not god in the Christian sense but kami or Japanese gods

館 KAN: building, mansion, large building, palace – Commonly taken to mean “Hall” or if you will “DOJO.

When John Ross Shihan & Lambros Kallianiotis Shidoin opened their new dojo in Melbourne, Tino Ceberano Hanshi gifted the name “Kushin Kan” to name the new dojo. The Kushin Kan dojo carries on Tino Ceberano Hanshi’s legacy and passes on his teachings and martial arts technology, which he developed through a lifetime of experience in the martial arts.

All are welcome to the Kushin Kan (free spirit dojo). There are no politics or egos. We hope that we can help people in their journey through life.
